Ancestry Joins Hands With Bright Pink For Breast Cancer Awareness

 On average, one out of every eight women gets affected by breast cancer. It’s a heartbreaking statistic. And learning about it is important to spread awareness among women. Ancestry joined hands with Bright Pink to launch the Breast Cancer Awareness Month partnership in October 2020. It’s a national and non-profit program to prevent or detect breast or ovarian cancer at an early stage. Ancestry is feeling honored to work with Bright Pink on its mission to empower women to browse breast cancer risks with ease and confidence.

The Bright Pink and Ancestry has an information center. This center’s name is The Pink Door, and it provides free access to educational stuff about genetic testing, breast cancer screening, and what actions one should take against potential risks. The Bright Pink and Ancestry together have introduced a new video series. It’s called Real Conversations About Breast Cancer. This video series will feature conversations with genetic counselors, medical experts, families affected by breast cancer, and breast cancer survivors. This show has been inspiring breast cancer patients all over the globe. Listening to breast cancer survivors, previvors, and medical experts provides deep knowledge about this disease and helps women fight against it.

Of all breast cancer patients, around 10% inherited breast cancer from their genes. It means that many women are genetically predisposed to this disease, and they have no idea about it. Next-Generation Sequencing powers AncestryHealth that checks a large number of places in BRCA2 & BRCA1 genes. Using this method, AncestryHealth is able to tell women if they have a risk of inherited breast cancer or not.

Though getting access to Next Generation Sequencing is costly, AncestryHealth is allowing women with affordable access to this program. We’re not just talking about technology.
